Native American Heritage Month

Figure wearing a Native American headdress with the words "Native American Heritage Month"

Native American Heritage Month is an annual celebration that takes place in November throughout the United States of America. Declared on August 3, 1990 by President George H. W. Bush, this commemorative month honors the cultures, traditions, histories, and heritages of Native Americans. This month is also an opportunity to educate the general public about tribes, to raise awareness about challenges faced by Native peoples (historic and current), and to recognize ways in which tribal citizens have worked to conquer these challenges.
