Library building

UNF Alumni and community members are welcome at the Thomas G. Carpenter Library and may use most resources and services free of charge while onsite. Members of the community and alumni are required to check in and present an official photo ID before entering the building.

Borrowing Privileges

To obtain a Special Borrower's Card, the general public must complete an Application for Borrowing Privileges and make payment at the Thomas G. Carpenter Library Information Desk.

How to Get a Library Card

  • Complete the Application for Borrowing Privileges at the Thomas G. Carpenter Library Information Desk or online.
  • Make payment by check or money order payable to UNF, credit, or debit. No cash.
  • Receive a Special Borrower's Card.

Borrowing Library Materials

  • Most library materials circulate for the borrower-specific period cited in the above chart.
  • Some items (e.g., special loan materials within the collection, reserve items, media) do not circulate or circulate for shorter periods.
  • Borrowers are responsible for returning materials on or before the due date.

Renewals

  • Materials may be renewed at the Carpenter Library or using the online renewal service.
  • Exceptions
    • Items requested by, and recalled for, another borrower.
    • Items for which renewals are not allowed.

NOTE: An overdue item will prevent use of the online renewal service.

Parking on Campus

Visitors to the library are required to have a virtual parking permit Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.  No permit is required from 5 p.m. Friday through 7 a.m. Monday unless there is a special event on campus.

Daily Virtual Permits can be purchased through Pay-by-Plate kiosks located around campus and at the Parking Information booths (the first building on the right when entering the I-295 or Kernan Boulevard campus entrance).  Visitors with a daily permit may park in spaces within Blue and Gray Lots, designated with Blue and Gray lot signs. These spaces are located in most surface lots, the Arena Garage (Garage 38; the Fine Arts Center Garage (Garage 44) and the 4th floor of Garage 44A. These are located on the campus map.

Make sure to park 'nose-in' so that your license plate is visible from the driving lane.
