Students can bring their laptops or other devices to the Laptop Connection Stations area on the 2nd floor and connect to a 24-inch monitor using the cables provided. The monitors have HDMI and USB-C ports for easy connection. If your device does not have the necessary ports, the library provides laptops equipped with these ports so you can still connect to the monitors.
1. Windows Laptop
- Connect your laptop to the monitor using either the USB-C or HDMI cable.
- Once connected, press Windows + P on your keyboard.
- You will see display options:
- Duplicate – Shows the same screen on your laptop and the monitor.
- Extend – Expands your desktop so you can use the monitor as a second screen.
- Second screen only – Shows the display only on the monitor.
- Select the option you prefer. Your monitor should now display your screen.
Tips:
- HDMI is video-only, so make sure your laptop has enough battery if you use HDMI, or plug in your laptop using the table outlet provided.
2. MacBook Air / MacBook Pro
- Connect your MacBook to the monitor using either the USB-C or HDMI cable.
- Once connected, your Mac should detect the monitor automatically.
- To choose how your screen displays:
- Click the Apple menu > System Settings > Displays.
- You can select Mirror Displays to duplicate your screen.
- Or Use as Separate Display to extend your desktop.
- Drag windows between your MacBook screen and the monitor to use both screens if extended.
Tips:
- On newer MacBooks, USB-C is typically the easiest connection.
- For HDMI, you may need a USB-C to HDMI adapter if your MacBook does not have an HDMI port. The library has several adapters available for checkout. To check out a USB-C to HDMI adapter, visit the library's front desk. The standard loan period for these items is 3 hours, and they must remain within the library during the loan period.
