At the Thomas G Carpenter Library's Virtual Learning Center, our mission is to leverage the immersive power of virtual reality (VR) to enhance the educational and outreach efforts of the university community. By providing cutting-edge VR experiences through our state-of-the-art HTC Vive systems, we aim to create engaging, interactive learning environments that inspire curiosity, foster innovation, and support academic excellence. Our commitment extends to aiding the university’s recruitment initiatives, showcasing the transformative potential of VR technology to prospective students and demonstrating our dedication to providing a forward-thinking, inclusive educational experience.
We welcome participants aged 13 and above to explore the possibilities of VR within our center, ensuring a safe and enriching environment for all users. In special cases, younger participants who demonstrate sufficient maturity and capability may be considered for participation, subject to prior evaluation and approval. Through our VR services, we strive to bridge the gap between traditional learning and the future of education, ensuring every student has the opportunity to explore, discover, and achieve their full potential.
The Virtual Learning Center (VLC) provides a space for faculty and student interaction with virtual content that enhances learning. Faculty and students can explore and gain a better understanding of this emerging technology with Vive Pro Eye Headsets and a variety of games and experiences.
Virtual Reality is the perception of being physically present in a non-physical world. In other words, it is transporting you to a different, virtual reality.
The VLC is located on the third floor of the library and offers the following:

If you would like to try VR for yourself by booking a VR headset for learning or leisure, click the "Reserve VR Station" below. Virtual Learning staff will walk you through how to use the headset if you aren't sure, or you can play your own VR applications using your personal Steam Account. If you are interested in booking the entire space for a class or workshop, please use the "Request VLC Instruction" button.
For general questions about the Virtual Learning Center or the educational and research uses of VR, AR, and MR, please email LibraryVR@unf.edu.
All new users must complete the Virtual Learning Center User Acknowledgement and go through the Steam VR tutorial before going into the VR Experiences. Each VR Station has it's own Steam Account, but if you have your own Steam account, you may use it.
