Faculty Resources

Library instruction sessions are typically tailored to class needs and cover research tools specific to the subject being taught. Instruction librarians welcome faculty involvement and will work closely with the course professor to provide an experience tailored to students' needs.

Example: An engineering class orientation would cover library catalog/OneSearch as well as engineering resources such as the CSA Engineering Research database or the IEEE Xplore Digital Library, in addition to research strategies that are useful to engineering majors.

Logistics

• Requests for instruction should be received at least one week in advance.
• Sessions can be held face-to-face in your classroom or a library classroom, online via Zoom, or pre-recorded.  
• Sessions can last from 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on available class time and the type and level of instruction needed.

How to make library instruction meaningful to your students

• Work with an instruction librarian to develop a meaningful research assignment.
• Provide a full description of the type of research students will be doing and/or a copy of any assignments in advance.
• Coordinate the instruction to coincide with a research project that will require that students use library resources.
• Attend the session with the students to help reinforce the importance of the session and to drive home points made by the librarian.

Research & Instruction Librarians offer workshops on new library resources and refresher workshops on existing library resources. These workshops can be open to the public or customized for a particular user groups.  Workshops have been offered 

• To acquaint faculty from specific UNF colleges or departments electronic resources available in their disciplines
• To introduce graduate students to the library's resources
• To provide faculty, staff and students information on how to use a specific library resource
