Celebrate Martin Luther King Jr Day

The 2nd Monday in January, the United States celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. It’s a day that  King’s accomplishments  in the area of Civil and Human rights are celebrated. The Virtual Learning Center is proud to offer two experiences that honor Dr. King. In Google Earth VR you can travel to many of the historic sites that were so important in the life of Dr. King.  In YouTube VR, you can stand in Dr. King's shoes as he embarks on his final act of service to help the garbage worker in 1968 striking in Memphis, Tennessee .

  • Martin Luther King Jr. Birth home in Atlanta GA-  King was born January 15, 1929 at 501 Auburn Ave in Atlanta GA.
  • Historic Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta GA - King was ordained here in 1948 and became its co-pastor with his father in 1960.
  • Morehouse College in Atlanta GA- King entered college here at 15 and graduated with a sociology degree in 1948.
  • Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church in Montgomery AL- In 1954, King became the Pastor and ran the Montgomery Bus Boycott from the Church' s basement office.
  • Lincoln Memorial in DC- At this location, August 28, 1963, King gave his most famous speech, "I have a Dream".
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial in DC - Located in downtown DC, the memorial honors King's legacy and the struggle for equality, freedom and justice.
  • Edmund Pettus Bridge in Montgomery, AL-  On March 7, 1965, a group of voting rights activists were beaten by state troopers.  A couple of days later, Dr. King led a second group of marchers in prayer across the same bridge.
  • National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis TN-  The site of Martin Luther King Jr's assassination at the Lorraine Motel in 1968. King was in Memphis to support the garbage workers' strike, whose motto was "I am a Man."

Only available on the Meta platform,  with YouTube VR, you can access all the 360 VR experiences hosted on the YouTube platform. One of those is, I am A Man 360 Experience, a repurposing of the original PC Driven VR Experience made for the Meta Rift device. Using YouTube VR on a Meta Quest, Quest 2 or the GO, open the YouTubeVR application. Then, search for "I am a Man 360 Experience."  and enjoy 10 minutes of amazing footage about the work of Dr. King on the Day he was murdered.
