Introduction

As a part of a State University System initiative facilitated by FALSC, the UNF Carpenter Library is moving to the OpenAthens platform, starting on September 1, 2020. OpenAthens allows the UNF library to verify that a web user who is a UNF affiliate has access rights to online resources both on and off-campus.

Benefits of OpenAthens:

  • Once users have signed into the campus authentication via SSO, they will be allowed to use library resources. This includes signing into Canvas, MyWings, etc.
  • Session timeouts for some systems should be eliminated.
  • Multiple access routes for resources including the library website, Google Scholar, and direct database access.
  • Improved resource usage tracking allowing the library to make more informed electronic resource acquisition decisions

As a part of this migration, there will be no change to the resources offered by the library. We do not anticipate any significant disruption as a part of this migration and expect a significantly improved resource access experience. UNF affiliates will continue to sign into the authentication system using their UNF credentials

One significant change will be that users will be asked to authenticate on campus to access most library resources.
