What is Alma and Primo VE?
Alma is an easy-to-use platform designed to handle all resource types (electronic, print and digital), and incorporates back end library operations (acquisitions, cataloging, electronic resource management, circulation, etc.) in a unified and comprehensive way. It will replace a variety of library products including the current Aleph system that is used to manage back end library operations. Major advantages of Alma include the streamlining of behind-the-scenes workflows, thus enabling library staff to keep pace with an ever-changing information environment, and the rich analytics which provide high-levels of insight and foster better decision-making in shaping collections around the UNF community’s research and teaching needs.
Primo VE is the discovery service for Alma that will provide improved and expanded search capabilities for the library's vast print, electronic, and digital collections. It will replace the current UNF Library Catalog, A-Z Publications and OneSearch (EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS)) in addition to pulling together results from other platforms such as Digital Commons, our institutional repository. Primo’s sophisticated search and relevance ranking algorithm will ensure the UNF community will be even more productive and innovative in their research.
