How to Set Up Your Google Scholar Profile

Connect to the Library

For UNF-authenticated users, Google Scholar search results contain links to full text from UNF-subscribed content,

Connecting Google Scholar to the library will add "Full Text@UNF" links to your search results.   If the Library subscribes to the item you are looking for, click on Full Text@UNF to be directed to the service that will let you access it.  (Off-campus users will be prompted to sign in to the Library with their N# and password.) 

  1. Go to https://scholar.google.com
  2. Click on the icon showing three horizontal bars on the top left of the webpage.
  3. From this menu, click Settings
  4. From the navigation on the left, click Library Links.
  5. In the search box on the Library links page, enter University of North Florida.
  6. Check the box for University of North Florida - Full Text@UNF.
    • Note: If University of North Florida - Full Text @ UNF (there are spaces on either side of the @) is selected, you should unmark it.  This link resolver is being retired and will no longer work. 
  7. Click Save.

 

 

Creating Your Profile (for authors)

  1. Sign in to Google Scholar using your Google account.
  2. Click My Profile at the top of the page, on the left side, to enter your profile.
  3. From this screen you can:
    1. Set up your initial profile.
    2. Edit your profile information, including where you work, name, photo, and research interests.
    3. Manage your publications.

You can also view the profiles of other UNF faculty on Google Scholar.

Editing Your Profile

  1. Starting from Google Scholar, you can access and edit your profile by clicking on My Profile in the top left corner.
  2. Click the pencil icon next to your photo to enter edit mode.
  3. Add a photo by clicking on the placeholder profile picture and then uploading a photo from your computer.
  4. Fill out your university affiliation and add your UNF email address (this will verify your scholar profile.  
  5. Check the box to Make my profile public.
    • Making your profile public makes it easier for people to locate, read, and use your scholarship.

Managing Your Publications - Add a Publication

Click the + button below your photo to add articles to your profile.  You can locate articles to add three different ways.

  1. Add article groups: This option shows you groups of articles that may all be yours (or not).  This method doesn't always work well but it does let you add multiple articles to your profile at once.
  2. Add articles: This option allows you to select individual articles to add to your profile.  Change the search terms if the suggestions don't include the article you are looking for.
  3. Add articles manually: This option allows you to enter individual works that have not been indexed by Google Scholar.  You can add many different types of publications of publications using this form, including:
  • Journal
  • Conference
  • Chapter
  • Book
  • Thesis
  • Patent
  • Court case
  • Other

Managing Your Publications - Merge Duplicates

  1. Check the box next to the duplicate publications, one set at a time.
  2. Click the MERGE button in the toolbar.
  3. Choose the record with the most accurate information.  Click MERGE.
  4. Repeat as needed.

Managing Your Publications - Delete Publications

  1. Check the box next to the publication(s) you want to delete.
  2. Click the DELETE button in the toolbar.
  3. The publications are immediately removed.
  4. Repeat as needed.

There are two options for retrieving publications from the trash:

  1. Immediately after clicking DELETE a yellow box appears at the top of the screen offering an UNDO option.
  2. Click on the kebab (3 dots) in the toolbar, 
    • Select View Trash,
    • Select the publications to be restored.
    • Click on the Restore button.
    • Click on the arrow in the upper left corner to leave the trash.

Managing Your Publications - Exporting Data

Publication data can be downloaded for import into other programs.  This feature only exports publication information, it does not include citation counts.

  1. Select the articles you want to export.
    • You can select all by checking the box on the far left in the gray bar under your photo.
  2. Click EXPORT and choose a file type. The available file types are:
  • BibTeX
  • EndNote
  • RefMan
  • CSV
