Finding a Streaming Video

Individual streaming video titles can be found in OneSearch.  Users can search by title, director, actor, etc. Some large streaming video collections are listed on the UNF database page, such as Academic Video Online, Films On Demand, Kanopy and a few others.

Playing and Embedding a Streaming Video

For most streaming video, a user just needs to find the streaming video, press play, and the video will start.

Icons for play, cite, share and playlist. The icon for play has a red square around it to identify it.

To watch a streaming video on a mobile device, some streaming video platforms require an app to play on a mobile device. Kanopy and Swank require that users download a free mobile app and first log in using their UNF email.

Many faculty want to embed links to streaming videos in Canvas, so students can easily watch streaming video as part of their course. Click share on the vendor platform and it will provide urls to play or embed the streaming video, such as a permalink or an embed code.

Icons for play, cite, share and playlist. The icon for share has a red box around it to identify it.

Kanopy and Film on Demand embed codes currently have an issue within Canvas. The embed codes lose authentication and won't recognize the users. For Kanopy and Film on Demand it is better to use the permalink.

This is an example from Academic Video Online of their "share" section and their permalink and embed codes. The permalink, embed code and LTI strings are all three listed in that order. There are buttons that say copy to the right of all three strings and will allow the strings to be copied to another interface.

Requesting a Specific Streaming Video Title

Please submit a Purchase Request to request an individual streaming video title be ordered. The library acquisition unit will follow up with the requestor.  In general, the library fulfills faculty requests that support teaching and research. In rare instances, we will fulfill requests from students. We might check with the faculty teaching their related course or the library liaison for the department.

As the library materials budget is not unlimited, the library can lease up to 6 titles per course. For more information, please see the UNF library Collection Development Policy.

Recommendation: Don't just check Kanopy, look at other streaming video providers to see if they have the streaming video title you want. For ex. Academic Video Online, Films on Demand.
