OLLI Membership Information

OLLI offers those age 50 and better more than 300 enrichment opportunities annually, in a climate fostering friendship and the mutual sharing of ideas and life experiences. 

Membership is $50 per person and is renewable annually based on the date you joined. Click here to join. Courses are priced based on their length and frequency, usually between $10 and $40 each. Some events, including the Art in the Library Tour, are free to members, while others require a small fee. Perks of membership include access to the UNF Library as well as other amenities and discounts. 

OLLI is a member-centered, member-led program. Members decide which programs to offer and when to offer them. Members plan and host social events. Members lead the organization by serving on its leadership council and its teams. Members decide just about everything related to THEIR OLLI. “Science Café”

Course Guide:  Featured Scientist Varies, see website for confirmed theme

Date | Time:  First Fridays within Fall Semester from 12-1pm

Fridays:  September 7, October 5, November 2

Location: Chamblin Room, UNF Library 1st Floor

Description:  Science Cafés are live and lively events at the UNF Library where engaging conversations with scientists take place based on important, topical themes. The Science Cafe is a 3x per semester on 1st Fridays, public series hosted by the Department of Psychology at the library. Previous themes include Senior Nutrition, Understanding How to Influence, Adaptive Immunity and Brain Function and many more.  Enjoy an event which draws students, faculty, and the community alike.  Lunch is oftentimes sponsored and catered by an area restaurant. Always check the website for theme and lunch information. In the event of no sponsored caterer, brown bag lunches are encouraged, and please always bring your own beverage as catering has not included refreshments. This event is always FREE yet for your comfort seating is limited to 25 OLLI participants - first come first seated. Event opens 30 minutes prior to start time.

“Photo Preservation Course”

Course Guide:  Susan Swiatosz, UNF Library Head of Special Collections

Location:  UNF Library Special Collections Reading Room, Library 1st Floor

Description:  Introduction to caring for paper photographic collections, including topics such as preservation, correct environmental conditions, handling of photographs, digitization and emergency preparedness techniques. Supplies provided by the UNF Library.

“Banned Books Week Special Community Event – CONVERSATIONS WITH DOROTHY”

Featuring:  Ms. Magazine co-founder and nationally-known civil rights activist Dorothy Pitman-Hughes along with faculty & leadership from the University of North Florida

Date | Time:  Friday, September 28 | 3-5pm

Location: UNF Library 2nd Floor Sculpture Area

Description:  In concert with the American Library Association’s annual Banned Books Week celebrations, the UNF Library presents an intimate conversation with American Civil Rights icon and Ms. Magazine co-founder, Dorothy Pitman-Hughes as she shares stories in keeping with this year’s event theme, “Banning Books Silences Stories”.  Ms. Pitman-Hughes will share her touching and extraordinary first-hand accounts collaborating with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and others and her own experiences as an author of banned books.

“Fake News – Identifying Fact from Fiction”

“Internet Made Easy – Fact Checking & Image Searching”

Description:  Are you ever browsing the internet and want to locate the research referenced in the article? Researching on the internet can be a challenge. This session will put you at ease by providing newfound research skills. Learn new search techniques, tips on how to complete your search more easily, and discover new sources of knowledge. In addition to searching articles and e-books, unearth image and music sources, and gain new insight into Google and other cutting-edge resources.
